Greg Horn (Father Filmed Horribly Beating His Daughters) Arrested! And My Thoughts On People Defending Him

Language Warning: This situation has infuriated me so expect a bunch of swearing.

Greg Horn aka "The Asshole Who Whipped His 12 and 14 Year Old Daughters On Camera" has been charged with child endangerment and corporal punishment. Link:

Here is a picture of the piece of shit child abuser:

magx01 the thoughtful gamers

For those not in the know what happened is two sisters (aged 12 and 14) were making a 'twerk' video ('twerking' definition) to post on Facebook when their father walked into the room and proceeded to whip them with an audio/video cable while they screamed, cried and pleaded for mercy. Here is the video of the event in question (warning: it's fucking disturbing, probably doubly so if, like me, you have a daughter):

Nice, eh? (Yes, I'm Canadian). So he beats them and gets arrested. He will likely end up in jail (especially give that this is not his first child abuse charge.....classy). Disgusting, but at least it's over now, right? We saw it, we felt the emotion, maybe discussed it with friends/family, and now we, along with the news cycle, can move on, right?

Well, no. Not me. This whole thing is driving me absolutely batshit insane and I can't stop thinking about it. I have been reading comments from people about this situation posted on various websites, and discussed it a bit myself on a forum/message board I frequent, and even though I knew it was going to happen, I still found myself feeling absolutely astonished at the fact that there are actually people, large numbers of them even, defending this scumbag's actions! This horrifies and infuriates me of course, as we are talking about the vicious beating of two little girls by the person who is supposed to be nurturing and protecting them, but what I feel even more strongly than the horror/anger is a profound sadness at just how little people seem to think/know about/understand their own  kids (or just kids in general).

Writing a New Short Story. Any Animators out there? Help Possibly Needed!

I just started to write a short story, and although I am only on page 2, I see potential in this thing to go a lot farther than one short story. I am thinking that a series of stories might be in order, and they might even be worthy of being turned into animated shorts for the internet. If anyone reading this happens to do computer animation, please leave me a comment, as I do not have any knowledge in this area, and so to make this idea come to fruition, I will require some help.

Interviews with Sarah Palin Supporters (Yes, she has some)

Now obviously they edited this for maximum effect, so I am sure that there were some less incriminating comments from people that were edited out............well, then again, we are talking about people who are purchasing Sarah Palin's book, and want her to run for US President......so perhaps not after all. I mean, come on, if you honestly think this woman should be running a country, you probably couldn't put togther a coherent and non facepalm inducing sentence if your life depended on it.

Anyways, here's the video:

Josh FN Groban

Language Warning !!!!!!

One of my best friends made this for a college media project/ contest and it was voted the best one in the class. The background to this is quite simple, he is always told he looks like Josh Groban, and the idea struck him to play off of that, so he combined the physical similarities between him and Josh with a gag based on Gorban's public image of innocence and thus was borne this crazy and really funny rap video.

Nile Drum Cover by a 15 Year Old!

A very good cover of the song Kafir! by Nile, one of my favourite death metal bands, done by a 15 year old. The only mistake, if you will, that I can see is that he's doing all of the blasts with 2 feet, but who can blame him? George Kolias' one foot blasts are faster than most drummers' two foot blasts!

Hilarious: Online Gamer (In Real Life)

Major Language Warning

This is really quite humourous, but only if you're familiar with online gaming, and these types of players especially. It really demonstrates how the douchebaggery you encounter online, spurred on by immaturity and testosterone meeting anonymity, really does not translate well to real life.

I got some good laughs out of these, particularly the first one:

The Most Beautiful Woman in the World?

You know, we're so inundated with beautiful women I don't even notice anymore, but there is something absultely alluring about this girl. There's somethig, I don't know..... audrie hepburnish about her. I think she's the most alluring woman I have ever seen.

Learning to Play Drums via Rock Band? Pt. 2

This is an addendum to the last blog:

http://www.magx01.blogspot.com/2010/01/learning-to-play-drums-via-rock-band.html

These are the last 2 parts to that series. If you have not seen the 1st one, I advise you do so, and please read the text either there or here before watching. Thank you.

I started playing drums after playing Rock Band for a year, and believe it or not, that's where I learned the basics. I had always had an acoustic drum kit, but never knew how to play, and the drums just sat there unused, but after a year of Rock Band I decided to give them a look, and right away I noticed a drastic difference. My Rock Band ''skills'' really had transfered over to the real drums.

I had to learn how to use a high hat pedal of course, and relearn positioning and how to play cross handed, but I immediately was able to at least play a few beats, something which I was never able to do before.

Here's a video of me playing a few months into it so you can see the evidence that it is possible to learn drums via Rock Band. The basics, at least.

Few things to preface it:

1) I had not been drumming long at all when this was filmed (May 2009). I was (and still am) a newb, and I have zero musical training. This was filmed after drumming for maybe four months, and only a few hours a week. No lessons or anything.

2) I do have an acoustic kit, but I have a wife and baby at home, so I bought the electronic kit to enable me to play with headphones.

3) I've improved since this, and actually leanred to diversify my fills a bit. I am planning on starting lessons sometime this year, so I can take it to the next level and really become the intermediate drummer I know I can be :)

Alright, now that I got that out of the way, here it is:

Enjoy (?) and now if anyone says Rock Band won't teach you anything, you can tell them otherwise.

Learning to Play Drums via Rock Band?

Note: There are a few swear words and a bunch of b.s.'ing in the beginning of this video. Just skip to :35 for the start of the playing.
