Eternal Torment and a Just God

As you read this blog, please keep in mind that while this does not take into account the idea/doctrine of repentance, it's not relevant here, so please ignore that and focus on the people that DO end up in hell. Including nonbelievers, which, according to the bible, commited the only unforgiveable sin (nonbelief). Also, this is only directed at the subset of christians who believe in eternal hellfire. Those who prettied up their theology need not apply.

So, allow me to ask you a series of questions:

Should rape carry a longer jail term than petty theft?

Should murder in the first degree be punished more harshly than tax evasion?

Should speeding be considered a worse offence than parking infractions?

Does it make sense that punishments should differ based on the severity of a crime? Is it fair to give the petty thief less of a sentence than the rapist?

Okay, now, answer these:

Are all sins equal?

Is murder worse than coveting your neighbour's goods?

What's worse? Adultery or working on the sabbath?

Is it worse to lie or to rape an infant?

Are all lies created equal?

Final questions:

Does it make sense that all of thes aforementioned sins result in the exact same punishment? Is it fair to give both the liar and the person who raped infants the same sentence?

Isn't god supposed to be just? Are we more just than god?

See, in the criminal justice system, differing crimes are given differing sentences. But not in hell. An atheist gets the same treatment as a serial rapist or a murderer. Hell, under this system, I would get the same punishment as Hitler.

Is this fair? Is this behaviour indicitave of an omnibenevolent being?

  1. Well this isn't aimed at me, but I'll go ahead and answer.

    Yes.

    Yes.

    Yes.

    Yes and yes.

    No.

    Yes.

Damn! I knew you would throw in a tricky one. There are so many damn variables. Quick question is it still adultery if you aren't the one in a relationship? If not I'll chose adultery over work.

The second one easy and yes I worded it that way to avoid typing it.

Yes. I'm sure it takes no more effort to lie about birthday plans as it does to lie about that hooker that disappeared at your bachelor party.

    No and no.

    No and no.

I don't think I did to bad. I couldn't quite help, but throw in some oddities, but all in all I think I passed.

Dude...the fuck kind of a question is this?! Of course raping an infant is worse! :0

Those were among the easiest questions ever... :P BTW, didn't you already do a YouTube video with these questions a while ago? They all sounded very familiar.

  3. Guy:

I don't consider that adultery, no. Still douchey, but not nearly as bad as being the one who's in the relationship, imo.

I have a question for you. I see you answered 'no' to us being more just than 'god.' I find that interesting. Care to elaborate? I mean, you yourself answered that we don't consider all immoral/unethical acts to be equal, but he does...well, with one exception (blaspheming the holy ghost) so I'm curious to see what you mean.

Seph: Raping an infant could be considered a charitable act, no? I mean, infants are usually virgins after all, so really you're just giving them what they need...

    ...

    the fuck.....

Anyways, yes, these were asked in my first YT vid.

  4. I just think that people can find ways to justify just about anything as a whole and even more so as a group. Just look at our wars and they prove that we can justify killing a huge number of innocent people as long as we get our enemies. How is that any more just than "god"? We can be, but we have proven that we just as likely won't be.

By the way I honestly just typed the wrong answer, but after reading your response to the mistake I decided to run with it.

As for the adultery question I was just pretending like it was a tough decision between committing adultery and working. I was surprised by your response a little though as I can envision reasons for people to commit adultery and it not be "douchey".

  5. "By the way I honestly just typed the wrong answer, but after reading your response to the mistake I decided to run with it."

    LOL!

I would answer back that we are more just in that we don't prosecute all crimes the same way, that we make exceptions, and that we give mercy/clemency in some cases. We also have places, like here in Canada, where we don't use the death penalty.

More just than 'god' doesn't mean just just (lmao!) or not almost as fucked up as god (as evidenced by your war example, and as you know, I depolore war (rhymed))

"as I can envision reasons for people to commit adultery and it not be "douchey"."

So can I. I was generalizing. If, for example, my wife treated me like shit and met none of my needs, was emotionally and physically unavailable, and did not try to fix it, even after repeated discussions, and I had an affair, I'd say that, while it was wrong, and I cannot justify it, I could come pretty damn close, and she definitely has her role to play. I think I could justify it right up until the "why not just leave her?" part.

    Then it all falls apart.

  6. This comment makes me think your in a good mood. You definitely seemed to be having fun.

It wasn't a bad defense considering I just came up with it on the spot.

Ah, but you overlooked abusive relationships. The women in those are usually scared to leave because they are made to believe it is that person or no one. I could easily see them escaping only after falling for someone else and using their strength to leave.

  7. I would excuse that in a heartbeat.
